Bamboo vs Cotton Muslin Swaddles: Which Is Better for Singapore's Weather?
Every nursery in Singapore arrives at the same argument: bamboo or cotton. Both make a lovely muslin. Both photograph well in a bassinet. Only one was made for a climate that never, across the whole of your baby's first year, drops below warm.
We aren't neutral. We chose bamboo and built a brand on it. The reasons are physical, and you can test every one against your own skin before you test it against your baby's.
The real difference
Muslin describes the weave (open, gauzy, airy), not the fibre. Cotton muslin is spun from cotton boll and bamboo muslin from bamboo rayon, a fibre regenerated from bamboo pulp. The weave gives both their breathability. The fibre decides everything after that.

Bamboo rayon is rounder in cross-section than cotton, so it falls on skin with a silky, almost cool hand, moves sweat away faster and takes more of it before it feels damp. On a humid night that's the difference between a sleeping baby and a clammy one.
Which suits the heat and the air-con
For this island, bamboo. Not because cotton fails but because bamboo fails later: in a temperate nursery the two are close, and at 85 per cent humidity, with a baby who runs warm the way all newborns do, the wicking gap becomes visible, so press a hand to the back of a cotton-swaddled neck at 3am and you'll often find damp. Bamboo buys you a few degrees of grace. Then the air-con question, which is really a layering question. A bamboo swaddle over a light onesie handles the cold-room night. The same swaddle alone handles the fan-only afternoon nap. One fabric, both rooms.

Bamboo muslin costs more per square than cotton. Comparing shelf prices is the wrong sum, because these are objects used several hundred times each.
Prices move and vary by retailer. Run the sums again on the day you buy.

Run that division and the gap narrows a great deal, since both last about as long and the number of uses is enormous. What tips it here is drying time. A square that's dry by evening gets used again. A square still damp doesn't. So you need fewer bamboo ones to cover the same week.
Where cotton is right: the ones that get the roughest treatment. Mopping the floor, a pram sheet, the one that lives in the car. Keep the bamboo for what touches her face and skin, which is what you're paying for.
Buy 6 to 8 of whatever you choose. Both are cheap per use, and the commonest regret in this category is owning 4. Ours was 5, I think, and we still ran out.

Safety and sustainability
Ours is OEKO-TEX certified, meaning tested free of the substances you wouldn't want against a newborn's mouth, and a swaddle spends roughly half its life being chewed.
Bamboo grows metres in a season without irrigation or replanting. That's how it became the considered choice.
2 caveats. Bamboo rayon is a processed fibre and a poorly made one can be flimsy, so fabric weight and finishing count for far more than the word bamboo on a label. Cotton keeps one advantage: it survives careless tumble-drying at high heat slightly better. Don't do that to either.
