Marketing Director · Mom of five

Maia Hillsborrow

Maia runs marketing at Little Rei. She is a trained physiotherapist, a Californian living in Bangkok, and the mother of five: Dominic, fourteen, her stepson, who is gifted and autistic; Ilizabeth, twelve, who bakes better than either of her parents; Katherine, six, who came to speech in her own time; Holly, two, whose eczema taught the family a great deal about fabric; and Melissa, nine months, who arrived in a birthing pool.

She writes the guides here on movement and early development, on skin, on feeding a family with five different opinions in it, and on the particular business of raising children a long way from where you grew up. Her family is blended and her household is expatriate, and both of those shape what she notices.

Her interest in wellness is practical and unglamorous. It is yoga in the twenty minutes before anyone else is awake, food that is quick and actually gets eaten, and the kind of steadiness that makes a house with five children in it a calm place to be.

Maia is a qualified physiotherapist, so movement, positioning and physical development sit inside her training and she says so where they do. She is not a paediatrician, a dietitian, a speech and language therapist or a dermatologist, and where a guide touches those she is writing as an informed parent alongside the evidence. None of it replaces advice from the person treating your child.
