Samantha Lin

Samantha designs for Little Rei. She is thirty-five, Singaporean, and lives in a four-room flat in Punggol with her husband and their two boys: Richard, who is three, newly potty trained and at preschool, and Charles, who is one, still in diapers, and spends his weekdays with his grandmother while Samantha is at work.

She writes the guides here about the practical end of small-flat family life — where the changing station actually goes, what the bin chute has to do with anything, how many diapers a year really costs — and about the craft afternoons, the reading and the storytelling that fill the weekends. She speaks Mandarin to the boys first and English second, which shapes a good deal of what she notices about how they learn.

Charles arrived through IVF, after two miscarriages. She mentions it where it is useful and not otherwise, and she is a good person to have written the pages about wanting something for a long time before it arrives.

Samantha is a designer and a parent, not a clinician. She writes about what has worked in her own home alongside the evidence where evidence exists, and anything medical here belongs with your doctor, your polyclinic or KKH.
